Title: Summer Heat

Pairing: Miyuki/Sawamura

Synopsis: Like, seriously. Why else would Miyuki do something like that?

“Miyuki Kazuya!! There you are!! Please catch for me tonight as well!!!”

“Tsk! He found me.” Miyuki had wanted an early night, especially since they had a practice game first thing in the morning. He’d snuck away as soon as practice ended, but Sawamura still managed to get a hold of him. It was clear he’d been running on the field with Furuya just moments ago. Even in summer, he was perspiring way too much.

“No, Sawamura, really, you should know by now that…”

“That I need to rest properly! I know! But there’s a pitch I want to try tonight no matter what! Thank you in advance!!”

Kuramochi, who’d gotten out of the bath with Miyuki, patted his shoulder knowingly upon seeing Sawamura’s determined eyes. “Looks like you don’t a choice, Captain-san! Kyahaha!” Then he walked away, leaving Miyuki to be dragged away by Sawamura for another long, long night.

Honestly, no one could blame Miyuki. Sawamura simply had too much energy for one catcher.

Not to mention, Miyuki’s been feeling… weird around Sawamura recently. It was summer, but he’d feel warmer than usual whenever it was just them. He found it harder to refuse Sawamura. His eyes were always following Sawamura (he even almost missed Furuya’s pitch once because he Sawamura shouting).

Even now as he caught Sawamura’s pitches and nagged about his poor control, Miyuki could feel his heart rate accelerate, and he didn’t like it. Not one bit. Day by day, he was realising it.

“–ai? Oi! Miyuki Kazuya!!!

Miyuki’s vision finally focused again and Sawamura was suddenly all too close. He leaned backwards a little too quickly and almost fell, the only reason he didn’t being because Sawamura grabbed him by his shoulders just in time.

“Oi! Are you okay Miyuki Kazuya?! Gah! Don’t tell me it’s your wound?! You haven’t recovered yet?! Why aren’t you answering me?! Dammit!”

Because you’re shaking me, dammit! Miyuki’s head was getting dizzy. Of course he’d recovered; it was already summer!

“If I can’t play in the next match, it would be your fault, Sawamura…” In that moment Sawamura seemed to realise what he was doing and he let go abruptly, and Miyuki’s body felt as though a weight has been lifted, which technically, it has.

“So are you okay or are you not?!”

Miyuki chuckled at the intensity he saw in Sawamura’s eyes. The pitcher never failed to amuse him, putting everything he had into all he did. Miyuki grinned at him.

“Nope! In fact, it hurts allllll over my body from catching so many of Furuya’s pitches today. His pitches are getting even faster, you know. And he’s gotten better with his control. You’re definitely gonna get left behind~”

And just as Miyuki expected Sawamura’s nostrils flared. “I won’t lose to that guy!! Just watch!”

Pitchers. Honestly. Miyuki stood, removing the guards he had put on.

“Eh? We’re done already?”

“Of course we are, stuuuuupid. Everyone’s long gone. What’s the point of burning yourself out now and performing poorly tomorrow? The coach won’t use you if he found out. C’mon, let’s keep the balls. I’ll help you stretch.”

“Gah! He’s right. Annoying as he is, he’s right!”

“…I’m your Captain, you know.”

He shouldn’t. He knew he shouldn’t. Miyuki thought about it, but his mouth moved before his mind could shut it.

“Actually, Sawamura. Let’s go for a walk after this. I’ll treat you to a drink.”

“MIYUKI KAZUYA’S TREATING ME TO A DRINK?! Oh my God, you’re definitely wrong somewhere! It must be your head! It’s your head, isn’t it?!”

…Hurry and clean up, you asshole.

Miyuki sighed in exasperation. He couldn’t believe he liked this guy.

Like?

Oh.

Like.

…Miyuki just admitted he liked Sawamura Eijun. Sawamura Eijun of all people. Rather, he was shocked that he was capable of liking somebody. He’d dedicated his life to baseball.

Miyuki gave a sideglance at Sawamura who picked up a ball and tried to pitch it into the basket. He missed, pulling at his hair in frustration. He sighed again.

Unbelievable.

He was still thinking about it when he bumped into Sawamura, nearly spilling his can of milk coffee.

“What is it? Why did you stop walking?”

Because! You’re not even listening to me, are you?!”

Crap.

“Of course not,” he snickered, trying to appear calm when he was anything but. Close up Sawamura was doing things to him. “What’s there to hear from a guy who drinks orange juice?”

“HEY! There’s nothing wrong with orange juice!” Sawamura’s face reddened, and there was the cat face Miyuki was all too familiar with. “Grrrr! Why can’t you just be nice to me for once, Miyuki Kazuya?!”

“I bought you a drink,” Miyuki pointed out.

“Also, who addresses his senior – his team captain at that – by full name?”

“Shit, he has a point,” Sawamura muttered.

“See?”

“Wait, no! That’s not what I mean! That’s because you’re never nice to me!”

“Then you want me to be nice to you?”

“Yes!”

“Then hold still and close your eyes.”

Sawamura’s eyes narrowed in suspicion, and Miyuki’s brows rose in return, crossing his arms in feigned irritation.

“Do you want me to be nice to you or what?”

“Of course!” Then with a little more doubt in his voice, “But this is you we’re talking about here…” The muttering that followed were too soft and jumbled for Miyuki to make out, but eventually Sawamura closed his eyes, staying perfectly still.

Miyuki smirked. Now, all he had to do was to turn and walk away for his well-earned rest. That’s what he should’ve done, because the idiot leaned forward and brushed his lips against Sawamura’s without so much a second thought. There was the sound of a can of orange juice hitting the ground, its contents spilling as Sawamura’s eyes flew open and his face was a crimson red as Miyuki pulled back, smirk never leaving his face.

“Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-You! THE NERVE OF YOU, MIYUKI KAZUYA! What did you –”

“Ahhh~” Miyuki stretched, turning towards the dorms. “It’s so hot, I think I’m gonna go sleep. Don’t forget to take a proper shower, ‘kay? G’night~” With a lazy wave, he strolled away, the cry of his junior echoing behind him.

But as Miyuki neared the dorms, his actions finally caught up to him and he brought a hand up, covering his mouth in embarrassment.

“Ahh, it’s really hot this summer, isn’t it…”
